Solved Router keeps fading on WiFI.

Specs: Imac & HP + a IPad, i76gb
Router keeps fading on WIFI. After a couple of good days working so so my router gives off sparadix WIFI. The direct cable hook up is OK but WIFI gets sketchy or I have to reset, constantly now. Router is 8 years old now but was OK before about a year now. If a new router is needed could you recommend a good, strong WIFI that's frugal too?

Before giving up your router try to select another broadcasting channel for WiFi. By factory default routers are set to broadcast on channel 6, but the mid band one may be plagued by high interference. So select channel 11 or 2, a side band that is rarely used. You can do that on the main page of your router interface and often this solves the issue.

This might be useful - shows where the overlaps occur:
http://www.metageek.net/support/why...

This is why many routers automatic settings usually go for 1, 6 or 11 but they often chose one of these at random if the domestic power goes off and on again.
I would favor a fixed setting on one of these, avoiding that which your nearest neighbor is using, as it is likely to be the strongest signal.

Since this there has been further extension above 11.

There are free programs around which show all the channels if you don't have that facility on-board.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

Inssider and xirrus wifi inspector are examples of free wifi programs that can id the local channels.

Anything above 11 is only available outside of the US for the 2.4Ghz range.
