Router & ISP Connection speed package options

May 17, 2010 at 20:36:17
Specs: Windows 7
I am trying to decide on an internet connection speed to purchase through my ISP, either 728Kbps, 2Mbps, or 7Mpbs

But I will also be buying a new router, either a G or N.

If I get a wireless router, say G model, will it have a cap on the speed I can achieve? For instance will a G router limit me to 2Mpbs when I am paying for a 7Mbps connection?

Thanks for the help

if you are using your G router at 54mbps or N router at 300mbps neither will have an effect of your 7mbps internet connection.

As stated above, wireless speeds is way in excess of anything the Internet can come up with

However, with wireless there are other factors to consider and there is no guarantee that you will get those speeds.

I don't know about that statement. I don't know of any SOHO level equipment that gets 300 Mbps. 100 Mbps, yes.....

As stated if you do the math you'll see the following:

Wireless G = 54 Mbps
Wireless N = 100 Mbps
Internet = 7 Mbps

Which do you think is fastest? Slowest?

LAN rates will far exceed your WAN connection rate
