Residential Gateway

Netgear Wgr614 wireless broadband router
July 5, 2010 at 20:13:47
Specs: Windows Vista
I use a cable modem to connect to the internet. Residential Gateway appears inside the directory MY NETWORK PLACES. I cannot see its properties or anything so i don't know what it is. Worse of all, it keeps on appearing even though i have already selected it or try to disable it. Can someone tell me what this is? Also, my network security setting is not secured- Could this be someone using my wireless router?

Residential Gateway is your modem. Windows Vista and
Windows 7 try to scan your network for you and identify network
items. It's not much more than an icon, you can't do much with
it... it's safe.

If you want to know about other people getting onto your
network, go into your modem/router's web interface and look for
something like "attached devices" which will list any devices on
your network...
