re-setting up Server

Sally Lane February 5, 2009 at 20:36:09
Specs: Windows XP
Have had to change location of server and when I set up server in new location I find that the software that was networked didn't work on other computers (everything else worked) BUT was going fine on the server. What have I done wrong?? I wondered if maybe I had put the network cable in back to front but don't think this is possible as both connections at either end are the same?! I am not at the location at the moment as it is my work computer but would welcome any theories as to what to do on Monday?? Take out all connections and try again?? Help!! Everything was working A OK before I shifted the computer. PS I need an answer - or several suggestions - before Monday!

What software is it?

Does it talk to a database service (like SQL, Oracle), or is it just a flat file system database where all you need is a mapped drive letter (like MS Access or Excel spreadsheets)?

Can workstations see the server? Can they ping it?

Can the server see the workstations? Can you ping the workstations from the server?

Did the network address change? Example: Was it 192.168.1.x before and something different now?

Does the server have a static IP address? Is it possible something new on the network have the same address?

Is it a Windows domain? If so, are clients using the server as their DNS server?

Assume that I already did an Internet search.
