how do I reset security code for this old Netgear without having to pay a tech support fee to Netgear, which costs more than buying a new model from them

I guess you are talking about the password to access the router?

You would push the reset button [requires a straightened paperclip] while powering the unit up. This sets it back to factory defaults. Account and password info is available in the manual online at netgears site.

I have done the reset. The security code that I am looking for is to access our wi-fi account with Comcast using this unit. I was leasing one from Comast since October. I was just given this older Netgear router. Comast could not help me due to its age. Netgear will support it for an hourly fee based service...which is more than buying some new Netgear model.
