I have a roving logon to a sbs 2003 server, one of the client PCs has died and is being replaced with a new machine, what steps must I take to successfully connect the new machine to the network?

All you should have to do is remove the old PC from Active Directory and then add the new one using an account with the proper credentials to allow adding a new workstation to AD.

Ok, thanks for this, I’m a real novice at this, do I add the new machine via active directory>computers, right click>new or should I go to clients computers>set up client computer

I have to admit, I haven't done this for a while, but it seems to me, when you change the client PC over from standalone to being on a domain, it should be added automatically once it's connected to the AD infrastructure.

Go into your System Properties (ie: right click on My Computer and select Properties) and go to the "Computer Name" tab. On there, click on the "Network ID" button and go through the wizard.
