PXE Network Booting WINPE

Microsoft Windows xp professional w/serv...

Specs: Windows XP, 2g
I use tftp32 as tftp server.
When I use both dhcp and tftp server in tftp32 it works, But when I try to disable DHCP the network PC wont boot.

The reason I'm trying to disable DHCP
is because my companies network already uses a dhcp server so i'm trying to avoid using dhcp on tftp32.

Any thoughts?

Off the top of my head, it's probably a configuration file that has to be edited. However, I have a question. Are you the system administrator or are you adding a server to the network on your own?

In the meantime, I searched Google for tftp32 boot problems & one of the hits is

Why do you think you need to use tftp32?

I use a tftp server program on my windows XP pro PC at work all the time and I use one that's a standalone app with no extra features an requires no real setup. If I'm not mistaken, it's a Solarwinds program and it's free.

Unless you need all those extra bells and whistles, why not just use something simple that does it's job and doesn't require a long learning curve to implement and use.

No one does tftp or ftp by command line anymore. That's if they knew how to do it in the first place.

I am not the administrator. I image alot of PCs in my office and would like to somehow setup a pxe server that would not interfear with the comapnies exsisting dhcp server or clients.(Don't want to get into any trouble)

as far as using TFTP32 , it is just a random program that i found and worked. I would prefer to use a command line solution ( easier to script wiwth)such as windows built in tftp server. But if I use that alone it dosent work.

If you aren't the administrator, the best thing to do is ask the admin what can be done? Uninstall tftp32 first.
