Specs: Windows XP
My mom recently brought home a Linksys wrt310n wireless router from her job, but unfortunately didnt have the software to download to my laptop PC. I was wondering if anybody had a way to get around this fix. I am not computer illiterate but i am no programmer, and don't get everything, so detailed instructions would be very appreciated. Thank you :)

You shouldn't need any software. What kind of internet connection do you have?

First, go on the internet and download the manual for the device. If Linksys doesn't have a manual for that product, there should be a "quick setup guide".

Once you have that, power the unit up. Then grab a pen and use it to push in the "reset" button the unit. Press and hold the button in for 10 seconds......then release.

This will reset the device to factory defaults. Then, use the manual/guide to find out what the default IP address of the device is and login to it with your web browser to set it up.

I don't know why the ship those SOHO routers with "software" myself, none is needed.

I have logged into the linksys router setup, with the 192.168.1.1 adress. The problem is, even though the router is set to factory defaults, it does not detect an internet connection at all. I have released the and renewed the ip adress multiple times and still am having no luck.

I also went to the linksys website and downloaded the setup wizard, and while it said that my internet connection should be working properly, i still get nothing through my router.

Did you plug your cable internet into the WAN port on the router?

If not, do so and see if it doesn't work properly then.

Let's go back to the beginning. Why did they give the router to your mother in the first place? Could it have gone bad & they were going to dump it?
