problem connecting to the internet pc

May 26, 2010 at 11:50:49
Specs: Windows XP
This morning my Dell desk top would not connect to the internet. Last night it worked fine, closed down correctly as normal but this morning would not re=connect. Lap-top connects wirelessly no problem.

The desk top display's "Acquiring IP address" then "Cannot acquire IP Address".

Based on the fact I know nothing about the inner workings I am now stuck as to what to do or where to go from here. If anyone can help it would be appreciated but PLEASE in basic english only not in techno-babble.

I assume, the desktop pc is connected to the router by LAN cable.
Unplug and replug the cable from PC to the router at both sides.

If this doesn't work, try another LAN cable.

Let us know, if the problem is solved !!!

Try to think anything you did when it was working well and back out the change, if not you can try to restore to previous working state too.
