Prepaid ISP charge extra for Instant Message

Specs: Windows XP
Is it possible that my Service Provider is charging me for Instant Messaging, and is not able to distinugish it from Text Messaging? I ask this because my credit only lasts for about a week whenever I use IM whereas when I don't use IM, my credit lasts for a month.

I'm using OPTUS Pre-Paid USB internet (Australia).

I guess, your ISP is simply counting all the internet traffic, you have.
Even if you don't type anything in IM, there is alway internet traffic, generated by IM in the background.

The original poster should always write the last response !!!
Let us know, if the problem is solved !!!

I googled for OPTUS Pre-Paid USB internet FAQ and THIS page came up in the search result. You should look through the Terms & Condition section to find the answer you seek..

I got a message from Optus and they may have been in error on charges or just an accounting error or you both could be right -

"Number: OPTUS MSG
Due to a system issue ur Mobile broadband data balance may be incorrect, this is now resolved, pls allow 5 working days for your credit to be automatically corrected
