Password reset for users

Specs: Windows 7
Hello Friends,

I have one interesting issue which is impacting lot of users, would appreciate if you can help in this.

For example One new user is created in AD, we have to set him to change password at first logon, so once the user ID is created and when user is trying to logon with temporary password he will be prompted to change password. When he puts in a new password according to the policy, he is getting error that username and password is incorrect. When this happens, it changes the password but because of the error, user thinks that the password is not changed and he tries to do that again and again and locks himself out.
So I want to remove the error "The username and password is incorrect".
When user tries to change his password after resetting the password, it happens same thing.

Would appreciate if someone can suggest solution for this.

Thank you

Most likely I'm not understanding the question properly but surely when the prompt to change the password is seen don't you first have to input the previous password?

Hacking out the error message in a security area sounds a bit risky to me.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

Hi Derek,

Sorry for the delayed response. User is getting prompted for current password and then to put a new password and confirm it, but when he puts all information and hits on change password he gets bunch of errors about password. BUT when he try to login with the new password he can login without any problem. So, AD changes the password but shows some errors in between and I want to remove those errors.

Thanks

Are there any password restrictions set on the newly created user?
Does the initial password meet the password criteria?

The user name or Passoword is incorrect.
After canceling the error it again asks for user name and password and when we put the new password it allows to login successfully.

The user name or password is incorrect, sometimes the current password is incorrect, sometimes the password doesn't meet the minimum requirements etc. when we ignore the error and hit cancel, it prompts for login and when we put the username and new password, it works.

Hi Sluc,

The initial password is also according to the password criteria.

Thanks

It seems this solved it for someone:
Go to the "Control Panel".
Click on "Appearance and Personalization".
Click on "Change Screen Saver".
Unclick "On resume, display logon screen".

Alternatively try disabling the lock screen - See Windows 7 here:
