Only prints one way over network

Dell / LATITUDE D810

Specs: Windows XP, Pentium M 1.73GHz/1MB RAM
Got a laptop running XP and a Dell Dimension E521 desktop running Vista Home Premium. Wireless router is wired to desktop and use laptop just for wireless internet connection (no file sharing). Also got a HP C5283 printer wired to desktop, but laptop does not see the desktop, nor therefore the shared printer across the wireless link. However, reversing this by connecting the printer to the laptop, the desktop instantly finds the laptop and printer across the wireless network and prints perfectly. Any ideas how to get this to work the the other way?

Have you shared the printers on the PC?

If not, you have to.

If you have then I recommend you go into the HowTo's section and see My post on how to install a network printer as it doesn't require you "seeing" the printer on the network. All you need to know is the IP address of the computer it's attached to.

Thanks - looks promising but how do I get the IP address of the printer, I've gone into preferences and ports but can't see the IP address anywhere

"IP address of the computer"

that is computer not printer though you should just be able to share it like as HP C5283, allow everyone full access and you are done.

Tried that it said 'detected device was of unknown type' and gave a dropdown list of which nothing looked familiar
