Not renewing network connection

October 25, 2011 at 09:51:29
Specs: Windows Vista Service Pack 2, Intel Core 2 duo T5800 2.0 GHZ / 3.00 GB
I have a windows vista SP2 laptop, with an Intel wifi link 5100 adapter and a Realtek PCIe Family LAN adapter. From some time ago, I'm having this issue: each time I want to change network (from my job's to my home's, for example) I have to disable/enable the adaptors. This was not needed for over a year and so I own this machine, and I think It might have something to do with a network drive some IT guy in my new job installed. Wich settings do I have to check that may be causing this problem?

let me make sure I'm understanding this

You go from a wired in network to a wireless, but wireless will not work unless you reset the adapters?

Is this the same from wireless to wireless and wired to wired networks as well?

A network drive should not be causing this. Drivers, maybe.

Thanks for the response. Occurs wireless to wireless and from wired to wired, not from wireless to wired or viceversa. If I use ipconfig /release on the wired connection, it works as well, but I have to do it in order to get the new settings, otherwise, it keeps the settings from the last connection; even if I unplug from a network and plug again, I have to disable/enable again. The connection works fine, but it's a pain in the ass.

You might want to look at using some software to do this for you. We use a program where I work called "Mobile Netswitch"

Which works quite well and allows one computer to swap between multiple locations.

I am the captain of my soul.

Thanks Chris, but this should be a natural function for my machine/OS. As it was before this problem started.

I didn't post that solution

Try re-installing the drivers or updating them. That would be where I would start troubleshooting this.
