Specs: Windows XP
my computer recently had a virus. It's been cured and all programs work except my internet connection. The computer cannot renew the ip configuration. It continues to say RPC server not available. please help

Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Services. Right clicking on the rpc service will give some more options; the one selected above was Properties, and then the Dependencies tab. On that tab you can learn the prerequisites for the service and also what else depends on the service.

Start each dependency manually and then see if you can start the rpc service
