No internet connection from BT socket

January 2, 2010 at 05:57:17
Specs: Windows 7
My dad has just bought this laptop to use downstairs - he's 83 - but he has no wireless connection only a BT Voyager 105 Modem.
I have disconnected it upstairs and plugged it in to a free BT socket downstairs and then plugged the blue ethernet cable from the modem into the laptop. The only light on the modem now is the power light, the DSL one doesn't come up, hence he cant get on to the internet. Any ideas please...?

I don't know much about BT but maybe that "free socket" isn't any good.

I was wondering that but the phone is working out of it so I assume its ok. I also tried it in another socket downstairs where a phones is being used and it works out of there as well.
