Nighthawk AC1900 Model R7000 Won't connect to internet

Netgear inc. Nighthawk ac1900 dual band...

Specs: Macintosh , 2.5ghz/16gb
My Nighthawk is having problems when I plug in an external hard drive that I've had connected many times before.
Basically, when I plug it in, I lose the internet.
The lights will occasionally all flash to either a pink or powder blue light and then to 2 orange lights. I've attached the sequence below.
(pink and blue lights pic is a little blurry, apologies. 2 orange lights was just before the lights settled into just the 2 oranges)

I checked with the ISP and there's no service problems in my area.

Is this external hard drive self powered or do you have to plug it in with an ac adapter?

It could be a power supply problem - either the wall wart or internal to the modem.

Try another drive.

the drive is plugged into a wall (AC adapter).

And the connection between the drive and the Nighthawk is via a usb cable? If so, try another known to be good cable...

If it were me, I'd call the Nighthawk support people at this point.

It matters not how straight the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate;
I am the captain of my soul.

Yes, USB cable. I will try a different cable. Maybe even AC Adapter if possible.
