Specs: Windows 7
I want to connect several computers across 2 offices in two neighbouring cities . What type of network do I need to connect them as well as with the Internet? What transmission media and hardware do I need?

There are different ways of acomplishing this, depending upon your exact requirements. As you are asking the question here I would guess that you are not an expert in networking, and don't feel confident about finding the answer yourself. Therefore I would strongly recommend that you employ a consultant who is an expert in these matters. Normally you have three options all of which require routers at each city location

1. both sites have internet access and you create a site to site vpn thru the internet for the two sites to securely talk to each other

2. frame relay T1 link between

3. dedicated point to point T1 between sites.

Understanding this is a good start in your costing analysis. You would talk to your telephone provider about these.
