network adapter/ driver missing

Acer aspire desktop / M5201

Specs: Windows 7
I experienced an electrical storm a few days ago and since them I haven’t been able to connect to the internet.
Windows network diagnosis: install a driver for your network adapter.
I’ve been trying to download drivers on a different computer then used a USB drive to transfer them but nothing has worked so far.

Since the problem followed an electrical storm It would seem unlikely that the problem was caused by a driver. You almost certainly have a hardware problem.

As a first step you should try another computer with your existing internet connection. Since you have provided no information about this it is difficult to make any other specific recommendations.

Thank you for your help. I wasn't sure how much information to add.
I've one desktop which is connected via Ethernet. One laptop which is connected via Ethernet and one other laptop connected via wireless; which I’m borrowing to get onto the internet now.
The modem was plugged in when the storm hit, my desktop was plugged in but off and the switch on the plug was off. The laptop wasn’t plugged into anything and it’s not working either but nothing has changed on it, the drivers etc are all there.
I’m very confused, I’ve now sent for a new router but I’m sceptical about my desktops drivers suddenly appearing just because there’s a new modem.
