Netgear Router can't see the internet

June 18, 2011 at 17:49:57
Specs: Windows 7
I have a Netgear WNR3500L with a Comcast cable modem. The internet was running slow so I rebooted everything. After that I could not see the internet. I tried to reset the Netgear Router, shut down and restart and still the same problem. I plugged the computer directly into the cable modem and everthing works just fine. I'm guessing something happened to the Netgear router but I don't know if it is a setting or something happened to the router itself. The router is about a year old. I can use the default 192.168.1.1 to get into the router but I'm not sure what settings I should try to change. Any advice?

See if the reset button helps... it will reset your router to factory settings. If you have changed them, might write them down before you reset the device.

It sounds like the device may be failing. Any lightning or power outages lately?
(remote possiblity) The power supply for the Netgear may be bad. Have it tested.

I did try the reset button, twice. It just does not see the internet. On the cable modem, the PC Activity button stays on solid. When I first got it I just plugged it in, setup the wireless part and it was fine. When I tried to run the Negear Wizzrd, it states it cannot see the internet. I have the modem hard wired to the computer. I use to have a laptop which is why I used the modem. But now I have a printer across the room that is hard wired with Cat5 to the modem as well. So technically I can get rid of the modem, but I would have to find a way to hookup the printer.

Sounds like the WAN side of the Netgear has failed. I'd get another router on sale and replace it. Easiest way to keep the printer.
