Need to test LAN socket and possibly cable on server mobo

My server board Tyan S2696 has 2 Network adapters.
Pretty sure one of them is not working correctly.
(1 cannot let traffic through to one of my gaming servers, cannot remember offhand what type of server)
Swapping cable into the other socket solved that problem.
No idea what the problem was, didn't investigate.

How can I test both sockets to see if they are fully operational and working?
A comprehensive test is needed to catch the problem that I had before I swapped sockets.

Hoping there's a software solution rather than physical but am open to a physical solution.
Various testers on ebay etc but not sure if they just test connectivity or are a comprehensive test?

Non working socket possibly has broken UDP or TCP socket/s?

ports/sockets are logical not physical. You have a physical issue if one works and the other doesn't. Appears that board is at least 7-8 years old. Things wear out. I wouldn't spend any time trying to diagnose it.
