"only connected through WEP"

If it's connecting using WEP, it's because of the way you have your wireless router configured. Follow TechDOS' instructions.

I am not sure if it is the same one but I purchased a plug in USB Wifi dongle that was TP-Link and after it almost an hour of struggling to get it to work, I want back and purchased an internal Wifi card for the desktop and that worked first try. This was a desktop so this was possible. You may want to try a different brand and get an AC type which s faster and more versatile than the N type. If the new one works, return the bad one as defective.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

Sir,

Open a web browser such as Internet Explorer.
Go to the Address bar and enter the IP Address of your router then press Enter.
For example, 192.168.0.1
At the login, enter the username (By Default "admin") and your password (default password is nothing or "admin"), click Ok.
Click the Wireless Settings icon in the top toolbar.
Click Advanced Security Settings in the left navigation panel.
Select WPA2 in the Level 1 section to enable WPA2 network encryption.

For More Information :
Google, "How do I find the username for my router?", "how to change WEP to WPA2 on ..." ... .

Good Luck.
