Need an IP Address Scheme?

Specs: N/A
Ok, I need designed an IP address scheme for a company that has 2 buildings in walking distance of each other with 240 people in each building and therefore 480 people who each need an IP address. So i guess there are 2 subnets each requiring 240 ip addresses. Any block of ip address will do as there is none specified. I know some people find it easy so anyone that can solve this for me. Thanks in advance!

What kind of network appliances will you be using in these two locations?

I ask because if you have enterprise level (managed) network appliances, you may want to have a look at using VLAN tagging in conjunction with subnetting.

This appears to be a homework question since someone in a company charged with ip implementation would know what to do.

You'd certainly hope so; else they've hired the wrong man.

i would suggest googling for a subnet calculator to help but most network techs can do this in their head

Ex.

172.16.10.0 /23 Network
2 subnets with 254 hosts each

um 172.16.10.0 /23 Network
results in 512 subnets with a max of 510 hosts.

which is why I use a online calculator.
