My wireless laptop can't find net printer

March 12, 2010 at 15:23:07
Specs: Windows 7
We have a Brother HL-4040CN net printer connected to our office LAN by cable. It worked very well. All the computers can print through network. Recently,we added a wireless router to the network . we connected the wireless router to the wire router like the wireless router was a computer. Verything seems fine. My laptop can get to internet through the wireless router. But it can't find the already exit net printer when I tried to install the printer on my laptop. Is there anybody can help me? Thanks a million!

It sounds like an ip address conflict.
The wireless router may have the same ip address than the network printer.
You first have to check that.

Hi, Paulsep,

Thanks for your reply. if there is a IP Address conflict, how can I solve the problem? Or maybe it is becasuse that the printer and laptop are in different LAN: wireless network and wire network? How can get around that problem? thanks.

Has the LAN a different ip address range?
E.g.:
LAN: 192.168.0.x / 255.255.255.0
WLAN: 192.168.1.x / 255.255.255.0

In this situation your wireless printer might require a power reset before you print each document. Though the printing activity will take place efficiently you will have to physically go and power the printer to enable it to print. This problem might require you to reload the firmware of the router and set the wireless printer to manual IP address in order to make it work seamlessly no matter how many documents you have to print. get more help for Wireless Printer Problems
