My Dell Inspiron 518 Ethernet port fails

September 24, 2010 at 13:04:31
Specs: Vista Home Premium 32 bit, Intel E5200 Dual-core
My neighbor has a new Dell Inspiron 518 and the Ethernet port will NOT work on her DSL box but works fine on my Cable Router. It insists that the Ethernet Cable is unpluged. I've tried 3 different cables. There is a yellow "!" on the Network adaptors/ Microsoft ISATAP Adaptor but I've read that that's a fault of the OS and can be ignored (Has to do with ip6). I have the latest drivers and all the updates installed and the Device Manager says the ISATAP adaptor has the latest drivers but cannot start (error 10). Help!

"the Ethernet port will NOT work on her DSL box but works fine on my Cable Router"

Then there is nothing wrong with her ethernet port. Don't fix what is not broken.

Did you try a crossover cable with the dsl box?
Did you contact the dsl provider?
Did it work with the laptop when the dsl went in?
