My computer is not recognising the internet

Specs: Windows 7
I have virgin cable internet, and a wireless router. If I plug either into the computer I can see the internet connection is working, however when I open Mozilla or Safari or even IE they say that there is no connection, and when I attempt to troubleshoot the problem they cant detect an issue, they say that they internet is not connected. Even though I can see quite clearly that the internet is working

How are you coming to the conclusion that the Internet is working?

Just becasue you can connect to your router does not mean that is is working. The lights on the Modem/Router will give you a good indication of what is working and what isn't. The definitive check is to log onto the router admin interface and check there. If there is a problem the diagnostics there will tell you exactly what it is.
