Modem/Router issue:

November 30, 2010 at 06:39:39
Specs: Windows Vista
Hello, I want to set up a router behind a actiontec modem. My problem started when I wanted to open the port for remote desktop. No matter how I configured the modem or router it would not work.
Next I tried removing the router and using the Actiontec modem only..this worked but..Windows sever 2008 would not connect to it as it did not see it as a router.
I configured the modem and router to bridge. My questions is does anybody know a solution to the problem and is bridging the modem to the router a good idea?

What is the model number of your actiontec modem?

I suspect it's a combo unit.......which is to say, it's a combination modem, router, and wireless access point.

If it is a combo unit, then you'd need to do a port forward on it, and then another on your second router. The port forward on the actiontec would point at your second router. The forward on the second router would point at the computer you wish to connect to.

When in doubt, read the manuals.

It matters not how straight the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate;
I am the captain of my soul.
