Message in network that you don't have permis

Specs: Windows 7
I have a Netgear router to which our desktop (running XP and using Microsoft Essentials as a anti-virus) is connected. The other computer in my HOME network is my wireless laptop (running windows 7 and Norton). I have configured Norton to allow for sharing on the network but when I click on the DESKTOP icon which does show in the network configuration, I get the message that "You do not have permission to access//DESKTOP. Contact your network administrator to request access".

What do I need to do to have sharing of data/folders/etc. between these two computers?

Windows 7 uses a new networking system called Home Group and Windows XP uses Work Groups. I don't think you can access a Home Group share from XP so you have to use Workgroup Shares on your Windows 7 box.

These should help...

Hope this helps.
