did you first make a WIRED connection to the router and configure it?

Do you get a ip address?

don't misread the results of an ipconfig. If going wireless and you have a wired interface it will say media disconnected in the ipconfig referring to the wired [not wireless] media

Appreciate your response.
This computer has always been wireless connection thru another wired computer (principal) with modem & router in the netwoork. Recently the problem showed up after WEP security was installed. Other wireless computers have no such problem. Please explain.

"wireless connection thru another wired computer "

why would you connect this computer wirelessly to another computer when you have a wireless router?

WeP change on the router would make no difference to this computer since it isn't connecting to the router.

Review your host machine ICS setup.
Review your ad-hoc wireless setup.
Post a ipconfig /all from the host machine and the one that connects to it wirelessly.
