lost my linksys icon, lost my security code key

February 11, 2013 at 07:30:10
Specs: Windows Vista
I am now using a neighbor's wi-fi connection because my computer doesn't allow me access to my wif-fi.
My server once entered my computer and since then I think it changed my key code. I get as far as the window for and when I type admin it says denied. Very frustrating because my cell phone is now off my neighbor's wi-fi and my kindle lost the connection to download.
I was on the live chat and paid Linksys, but the agent closed the session without helping me!
Any info will be helpful. If I was to buy a new Linksys would that solve my situation?

I would reset the router to factory defaults.

To do so, simply hold the reset button in for 10 seconds while the unit is on. Then release. Once the unit is done booting up it should be reset to factory defaults and you can then access it's management interfafce using your web browser and the default IP address listed in the setup guide/manual

I would highly recommend updating the firmware on your unit after you get it reset (before doing anything else) and once done, then reconfigure it.

It matters not how straight the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,

I am the captain of my soul.

Something here doesn't have the ring of truth about it.

Any tech guy would have told you exactly what CurtR said. It is standard procedure in these circumstances. He would then have been able to talk you thorough the reconfiguration of the router. There is no way of discovering the access code to a router if you have forgotten it and a factory re-set is the only option.

Or are you trying to reconfigure somebody else's router that you don't have physical access to.

We tried to reset router 4 times, not able to. I have been using this for over 4 yrs. I am currently not on my own wi-fi, lost that connection and icon. I'm on my neighbor's. The agent couldn't get me through the steps to reset my linksys. I can't get pass the sign in page.
I think she left the session because that is as far as she was able to go with me. Someone told me maybe my computer doesn't recognize my Linksys because I'm now on my neighbor's wi-fi. When my server couldn't help, they suggested to contact Cisco. That is what I did.

You need to connect to your router via a wired connection not a wifi one. This is basic 101 router troubleshooting.

If you can't reset the router to basics then its time to go buy a new one.

Just for grins and giggles though you should hold the reset button in with a straightened paperclip as you power up the router. Once you see all lights flashing release the reset button.

Just going to buy a new one at this point. Thanks all for your input.
