Specs: Windows XP
Hai ,

I recently updated my Domain controller (
Windows server 2003 enterprise edition) and
installed Service pack2.But after that none of
the domain users can access shared
documents in the domain controller and file
servers. While accessing the domain controller
or file server, a log on window will appear. And
whenever i give the username and password (
domain administrator). It show an error ""Logon
unsuccessful: The user name you typed is the
same as the user name you logged in with.
That user name has already been tried. A
domain controller cannot be found to verify that
user name." . Please help me to solve this
issue ?

For your information my clients are Windows
XP prof SP2. And i uninstall all those updates
and Service pack2 also .

What exactly do you mean by you updated the domain controller?

There is a big difference between being just a file server and being a domain controller. Which is it?

Hai,

I installed security updates and Service pack2 in my
DC(Windows server 2003). After that no one (Xp clients )can
access the shared folders in my DC and other computers
also. While accessing a login will appear. And it will ask for
password and username. Once you enter the uname and pwd.
Then it will show an error "Logon
unsuccessful: The user name you typed is the
same as the user name you logged in with.
That user name has already been tried. A
domain controller cannot be found to verify that
user name."

"DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.15"

It should be 192.168.0.10

You are not properly setup for Active Directory. Wkstations and the server point to the server for dns. On the DC the dns server's forwarders tab has the isp's dns ip listed so it can forward requests that can't be resolved locally.

the problem isn't going away until you correct your dns entries. Why haven't you changed .15 to .10 in the servers tcp/ip dns properties as recommended?

Have you put this ip [202.88.238.3] in the FORWARDER tab [not to be confused with forward lookup zone] in the dns server? If not do so.

do a tracert to 202.88.238.3 and post the results

Have you corrected these entries on the server?
IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.10
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.15
DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.15

DNS Servers should be 192.168.0.10

This should be the only entry for the workstations also.
