What's wrong with the locate command?

Try the 'find' command. More info on the command is available on google or by typing: man find in a terminal window.

find / -name [directory/file name]

It's simple enough to run this command from the command line manually. Should you need to automate it, make a script, ensure you chmod +x [script name] and then set it as a cronjob to run automatically.

I like locate much better. It searches the entire drive.
