Linksys Port Forwarding Problems

Specs: Windows Vista
Hi, I had a problem with the internet that seems to be related to setting up the port forwarding. After setting the static IP and enabling the ports on the Linksys router (I'm setting it up for uTorrent that I set up to use the same port as I set up the port forwarding to), the internet would go in and out repeatedly.

This went on for about 12 hours and then I started back tracking. I disabled the static IP, and when that didn't work I disabled the port forwarding altogether. I don't have any internet problems at all when I disable the port forwarding. As soon as I enable it again, however, I have the same problems.

When the internet goes out I am still connected to the local network, I just don't have internet.

I must be doing something wrong, but I don't know where it is.

The router is a Linksys BEFSR41 version 4.3 and my internet provider is through Verizon.

Thanks for your help!

I would have a word with your ISP. They could be disconnecting you because of excessive bandwidth usage. When you disable port forwarding your bandwidth use goes down and you are back on again. Re-enable port forwarding and your bandwidth usage goes through the roof.
