Solved Limited Internet access or none!

Specs: Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit, 3.401 GHz / 12269 MB
On my desktop PC my internet connection normally runs at about 8-10mps but at times slows down to less than 0.2mps and then drops out (a re-start sometimes works but not always and I have no connection - at the same time this happens my laptop is running at 10mps! According to Windows & Edimax (wireless adapter) the signal I am getting is excellent? Seems to me that some program is somehow interfering with internet explorer (version 9) after it has been running for a time. The problem occurs anytime whether download P2P or just surfing the net??

If it happens with P2P downloading too, it's nothing to do with your web browser since you don't normally use that for P2P transfers. Getting an "excellent" wireless signal is also not relevant to your internet speed so that means nothing as far as your problem is concerned.

I would install a reliable antvirus package and give your system a full scan.

Big downloads (ie: p2p) will kill your bandwidth. So if you're doing that the next time it happens, try shutting off the p2p and see if that doesn't improve things.

Keep in mind that wireless is what it is, and compared to a wired connection, it sucks....this is regardless of signal strength. So next time this happens, try it with a wired connection and see if that doesn't make a difference.

Things you can try to improve your wireless:
- ensure router has most recent firmware
- ensure wireless network interface on computer/laptop has most recent drivers.
- stop using wireless (again, it sucks) and go with a wired connection.

It matters not how straight the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate;
I am the captain of my soul.

I think you have missed the point - its not P2P (only used occasionally) its normal internet surfing - its not a wireless problem - tried wired - its no faster! As I said my laptop works fine at the SAME time as my PC is either stopped or running at 0.2 -0.5 mps.
