lights on wifi, but no machine detects it

January 17, 2011 at 15:25:00
Specs: Windows XP
After having my modem and router switched off for about 3 hours (removing trojan on one machine) neither of my laptops or Nokia N8 can connect. The LAN is fine, all lights are showing ok on the router, inc WLAN, but no machines can detect the wireless signal

Hello Jacob here

First can you connect your computer directly to your router. Then you will need to open a browser window and go to the routers web interface and look to see if its enabled to do wireless.

To find the web interface. You will A need to google the brand name and the ip for it. Or B look at the papers that came with your router

I have the manual, i have my password etc, In my fustration, I have stuck a pin in the back to do a factory reset. when I enter the ID address, It asks for a username and password, I enter the default settings and it doesn't ID them.
Even when I enter the Router's name and password nothing except an error Unauthourised 401
This is what is displayed:

The server 198.162.1.1 at level_15_access requires a username and password.

Warning: This server is requesting that your username and password be sent in an insecure manner (basic authentication without a secure connection).

This all started when I turned the router off for a couple of hours to remove spyware

Did you hold it down for say more then 30 seconds? That should bring it to the factory defaults. Try that. If you want to my contact info can be found here http://programmingtesting.info Give me a call if you want.
