Laptop WiFi randomly shuts off in bedroom

Sony Vaio vpceb24fx/wi notebook
August 10, 2010 at 00:44:24
Specs: Windows 7
I just got my Sony Vaio laptop less than a month ago and it has been working great. I mostly use it in my living room on the first floor and have no issues. I take it up to my bedroom on the second floor at night and the WIFI shuts off randomly. I'm not sure why this is. The switch is always in the ON position. The WIFI won't turn back on until I fully restart my computer. I don't understand this because I can get WIFI outside on my deck. I am mostly worried about this because I am starting college in two weeks and would like to have this issue solved before I leave so I know it's not an issue with my computer itself. Thanks so much.

perhaps when your going up to your bedroom there is a part of the stairs (or whatever you use) that the wi-fi cannot cover.

then the laptop would be cut off from the wi - fi and have to retry connection

nothing wrong with "piggy-backing"

if people dont know how to password their router then they are probably too old to realise that it takes an extra 10 seconds to load each page because the whole neighbourhood is downloading porn through their router

Your comment about, "they are probably too old to realise..." combined with your lack of ethics/integrity suggests you're a punk kid and doesn't in the least surprise me.

I'm "old" by your definition. I'm almost 50. But I wager I've forgotten more about computers and computing than you'll ever know.

Just because somebody doesn't know how to secure their home wireless network doesn't make them old. I've had to explain the necessity to a few kids who I would guess to be within 10 years of your age. Not everybody in the world works with computers and has a pile of formal training on them like I do.

Well kiddo you need to understand, just because somebody doesn't know enough to secure their wireless does NOT make it right for you, or anybody else to use it.

If you're using it to download illegal files (movies, music, software) then it's doubly wrong. If you're using it to download/exchange kiddie porn then you deserve to be covered in gas and lit on fire.

Regardless of the reason, if you have ethics, morals and any personal integrity (likely 3 words you'll have to look up in the dictionary) then you wouldn't use someone else's unsecured WLAN, in fact, if you had integrity, you'd go tell your neighbour how to secure it to prevent others from using it.

There is a real issue with using someones unsecured network, it's called stealing.

When you take something you don't own or didn't pay for it's called stealing.

Your neighbor pays for their internet, you connect and use it without permission. How is that any different than grabbing a $20 out of their hand.

As Curt said, if you had any morals you would tell them their network was not secure.

you always get the ones who like to start a flame war.....

got bored of your lecture after the second line

people will always take advantage. No matter how big you think you are over a forum.

If you left your front door to your house open over night... im sure you would wake up to find nothing left in your house

If you leave your car running outside all day in a city.... im sure it wouldnt be there when you come back

Maybe you should try broadcasting your lecture over the television to try and change the nature of the human race?

No surprise there, most kids like you have the attention span of a gnat.

people will always take advantage. No matter how big you think you are over a forum.

Sorry son..........criminals and a-holes like you will........but people like myself, people who have morals and integrity do not. I pay for my own highspeed at home so I have no need to steal somebody elses.

If you left your front door to your house open over night... im sure you would wake up to find nothing left in your house

Or, I might find a body with 6 or 7 .45 calibre holes in it. I'm a gun owner, a hunter, and a dead shot. You come into my house unannounced in the middle of the night and the meat wagon will be hauling your corpse to the morgue very shortly after you enter my home.

I live in a smaller community with more decent people in it than there are losers like you. I can, and do, go to work and leave my front door unlocked all day long with no worries. I know all my neighbours and they know me, if anybody unknown to them should go into my house while nobody is home, they'd call me immediately after dialling 911.

If you leave your car running outside all day in a city.... im sure it wouldnt be there when you come back

My truck has a command start and I can leave it running with the doors locked. The very most a pinhead like you could accomplish is breaking the window and then they'd realize there's no key and have to go on looking elsewhere.

But, I don't leave my vehicle running needlessly. That would be a complete waste of energy (ie: gas) and we don't have enough of it in the world to just throw it away to keep my car cool or warm, when I'm not in it.

Maybe you should try broadcasting your lecture over the television to try and change the nature of the human race?

I see I touched a nerve. It's funny how people like you hate to have someone point at you and calll you what you are.

I couldn't be bothered to try to change people like you. I've known too many in my life and you all think you're smarter than everybody else, you cheat whenever you can, you lie, you steal and you blame your actions on others. You also think everybody else is like you. Which luckily is not true.

The world is full of people who care, people with morals and ethics and kindness. People who will stop and help a stranger. You, and others like you, seem unaware of it. We still outnumber your kind, thank goodness! If we didn't, I wouldn't stick around to watch our world go up in flames.

Yes, I keep saying you're a kid........but call you my son? Most definitely not! You couldn't compare to my son in any way........he's a decent human being who doesn't think it's ok to steal.

I'm 25

You're still a kid. Being a "kid" isn't about age, it's about maturity, which you lack.

and one of the nicest guys you could meet

For an immature thief with no morals, no values and no ethics. I'm sure you mommy and daddy are very proud of you.

you clearly have no life. writing about 13 paragraphs of text trying to lecture some one you know nothing about. go to work you retard

I'd expect to hear something like this from a 12 year old. Did you stick your tongue out and blow a raspeberry at the screen when you typed that? You've just proved my point about your lack of maturity.
