Specs: Windows XP
PLEASE NOTE: my laptop is an Acer 3682, I couldnt find it in the list so had to choose any one there so please ignore what's stated in the product section.
My laptop has never been able to connect to my own wireless. It for some reason connects to my neighbours and finds everybody else's in the range but it cant even see my wireless in range! My wireless works fine because it connects perfectly to my other laptop but just this one doesnt. This was a friends laptop who used it fine for 2yrs, ever since I bought it to my house its never been able to connect to my wireless. Worse thing is, it doesnt even find my wirless when looking for networks to connect to, what's weird is my wireless is connected fine to my other laptop so why doesnt it find it in range and connect to? Nothing else seems wrong with the laptop. I have done a factory reset and all other maintenance related things but nothing works. I am using Windows XP. Hope you can help. Thank you.

Are the wireless settings exactly the same on your new laptop as they are on the one that connects? I would literally go through every last menu in Network Connections and make sure the settings are identical to rule out any software related reasons for it.

Failing that, have you tried resetting the actual router itself? What happens when you turn off the wireless on the other laptop?

Yes, all settings are the same... there's not much to it really. I mean it cant be a software thing because it does connect to wireless networks but just not mine!

What do you mean by 'turn off wireless on other laptop'? do you mean turning off the wireless radio so it doesnt detect any networks? If so, nothing happens - when I turn it off it disconnects and when I turn it on it re-connects. I havent tried resetting the router.. if I do this I have to go through the whole setup procedure again and I'm afraid it might mess things up for the other one! Could there be anything else? It really is a strange situation, I mean the router works fine because my other laptop is using it and the laptop's wireless works fine because it uses my neighbours wireless... Its very difficult to spot where the problem is as both work in their own right but just dont work together! hope this makes sense.

Thanks for your response.
