Click on my name above in my response and read my "how-to" guide titled, "Installing a Network Printer: version 2" and follow the instructions.

Is it an HP All-in-One (model no. ?):

- Make sure you have the latest HP (if HP) software installed
- Make sure you have the latest printer drivers
- Make sure you have the latest WiFi driver for your laptop.
- Is your system clean of malware / viruses? (Sure it is, sure...)

Just another stupid saying...

HP Envy 100 D410
Everything is up to date.
Previously worked
Problem started when I reinstalled Zone Alarm Security Suite
But with ZA turned off, I still get the problem
I have reinstalled the HP Envy software
I can see the HP printer on the network, but it won’t connect
The HP Envy icon in the Printers and Faxes has disappeared
Running XP3 on a HP Tablet

I think ZA still can run in the background, even with it "turned off." Look in task manager for file process (Task Mgr, Processes Tab) file running called "vsmon.exe."

ZA could be the culprit. I have also seen malware/spyware/viruses cause printing issues. Make sure your system has current, up to date AV installed on it and scan it with a couple of different anti-malware tools: MalwareBytes, EmsiSoft anti-Malware, SpyBot Search & Destroy etc.

Thanks PCG - here's the solution for anyone who has the same problem:

Solution:
Completely remove the HP printer software
Download the latest software from the HP site
Reinstall the HP printer software
At first this did not work
Then I used the software setup wizard on the actual printer and reinstalled the WLAN password. Note: this was not required when I first installed the printer.
Then got a report showing successful
Then tried to reconnect the printer using the HP software.
It seemed to download quite a number of .dll’s, then it found the printer and connected. There are also a new bunch of new HP programs listed in ZoneAlarm.
Note 1: Although connected, printing worked only after I had disabled the ZoneAlarm software - and yes the vsmon.exe was turned off in the Task Mgr.
Note 2: “Activate scan to computer also would not work with ZA up. However once ZA was turned off it would mount.
Note 3: Putting my WLAN WiFi Network in the trusted zone worked. Trusted Zone is set to medium: “Lets you share printers and other resources over trusted networks”

Many thanks
