Solved Laptop can connect to all network PCs except one?

August 6, 2018 at 11:06:26
Specs: Windows 10
My laptop can connect to every PC except one, BUT all the other PCs in the network can connect to the computer that I can't connect to.

This is the error I get:

Windows cannot access \\JAMES

Check the spelling of the name. Otherwise, there might be a problem with
your network. Try to identify and resolve network problems, click
Diagnose.

Error code: 0x80070035
The network path was not found.

I don't get it since I can connect to the internet and the other computers in the network - so I don't believe it's a router issue.

The "JAMES" PC in question serves as our server of sorts - keeping the collective files and hosting necessary data for our property management software. Could it be the fact that it's a dynamic IP?

To add to the mystery - for a while I could SOMETIMES connect to the "JAMES" computer. Some days I would show up to work and at first I would get the error, but say I tried again 30 minutes later I would connect. That has stopped being the case the last few weeks as now I cannot connect at all.

I'm running a fairly new Dell XPS laptop. The JAMES PC is a new (a couple of months old) top of the line Dell tower desktop.

Thank you in advance for any help. (Yes, I've restarted my computer and the router)

How many other computers are connected to the James computer. Unless you are running a server OS, I believe you can only connect 10 devices to a standard Windows operating system.

I think you should turn the router power off for half a minute just to try (if you haven't already). I understand the logic of what you are saying but I have found this can sometimes fix things even though only one or two devices are affected. If not try the full router reset.

EDIT:
SORRY, missed the bit about powering off the router (unless it arrived later). Did you try the full reset too - there is usually some sort of button for this?

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks
