IPCop Blue Zone

March 5, 2009 at 06:14:00
Specs: Windows Vista, 3.2 P4
I am about to setup a IPCop firewall and understand everything I believe but I do have one question.

If I setup a blue network for wireless network I should still be able to access my file server just like being in the green zone. I have read all the documentation but don't quite understand if I will have to setup a password to access computers behind the green zone or if they will just show up.

Thanks.

I never used IPcop but what's the sense in having a firewall if the file server doesn't ask for a password? That's the only way to setup a secure network, in my opinion.

My file server is encrypted and ask for a password. What I was wondering is if while on the blue zone (not completed trusted zone) would I still see all my other computers including the file server.

By default BLUE only has access to RED via "FIREWALL>BLUE access" so you will not see your wired network (GREEN) initially. You will have to use "FIREWALL>DMZ pinholes" to access your computers on GREEN or ORANGE.

Ok that's kind of what I was thinking. Now what is the best way to do that? I have read the IPCop admin manual and install manual but don't recall seeing exactly how to setup the DMZ pinholes.

This is too complex a question to answer briefly in this forum. I suggest you install IPCop and use the online help (download the latest IPCop version - 1.4.21).

You will find a wealth of information at www.ipcops.com.
