ip address conflict

Specs: Windows XP
i am in a corporate network and i am facing one problem with one of the user is that the IP address is conflicting with another computer. User using Win XP. it says ip address is conflicting with another computer in your network. ip address is given by DHCP when i give him static there is no problem..but i need to give him ip address by DHCP. i have tried ipconfig/release & renew ...ipconfig/flushdns & registerdns...but still the same problem...kindly give your suggestions so i can solve this problem....thanks

what else is getting the same ip address? You have to look at both machines not just the one you see the error on.

btw ipconfig /flushdns register dns has nothing to do with the issue. Ipconfig /renew would.

well what else i donno who's taking the IP address but the problem was solved by changing the NIC...

but want to know one thing is that....is there any kind of buffer size or buffer limit in NIC's...is there any cammand to be used in CMD...thanks

only thing that would change with a nic and dhcp is if you had done dhcp reservations. ip conflict has nothing to do with nic buffers so your question leads me to think there is great confusion as to how dhcp and ip addressing works.

OK. What is your dhcp scope? What ips are you statically assigning?
