Internet works fine, but disconnects after sitting still.

Specs: Windows 7 No Service Pack
Hi, I have a Windows Seven desktop that will disconnect from the internet ( It has a Ethernet cable directly to the router ) after sitting still for a few hours. I recently upgraded form the Quest (Centrylink) PK5000 modem to the Q1000 modem. It worked fine on the PK5000, and the settings are exactly the same. Restarting the computer fixes it (Temporarily) until I let it sit still for a few hours. My laptop has a Wifi card and works even when the Desktop doesn't.

Go into your NIC settings and make sure "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" (or something like that) is not checked.

You may also want to check your power settings in the Control Panel.

It may also be a good idea to re-register the DLL and OCX files in IE:

1. Open the Command Prompt as Administrator.

2. Copy & paste the following codes into the Command Prompt just after [ C:\Windows\System32> ] and hit "Enter" after each code.

• DLL Files: for %1 in (%windir%system32*.dll) do regsvr32 /s %1

•OCX Files: for %1 in (%windir%system32*.ocx) do regsvr32 /s %1

Please Note: You must enter these codes one at a time.

• DLL Files: for %1 in (%windir%system32*.dll) do regsvr32 /s %1
•OCX Files: for %1 in (%windir%system32*.ocx) do regsvr32 /s %1

These commands literally do nothing.
