Internet connection disconnects frequently

Specs: Windows 7, i7/6G
Recently came back from college to a terrible internet connection that frequently disconnects or drops in speed randomly (for all computers on network). This requires me to perform a hard reset to restore connection. This usually happens at least once a day and sometimes several. Current set up is a Motorola Surfboard SB5100 Cable Modem and a Linksys WRT54GS router. Any help would be extremely appreciated.

Go to the Linksys website and make sure you have the latest firmware.

Click on my name above in my response and read my "how-to" guide titled, "Troubleshooting Wireless Issues"

Go through the steps and see if that doesn't fix the issue. If it doesn't, you may need to replace the router
