Installing NIC and wireless drivers

February 23, 2010 at 06:00:34
Specs: VISTA, 1GB
Hello!
I am really frustruated with this computer now. I been trying to install the drivers.

Under Device manager no NIC will show up only "NVIDIA nforce Networking controller¨

I trired downloading the drivers for my laptop from

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...

I removed current drivers
and installed those I downloaded for my wireless card but it still does not detect anything. When I plugin my ethernet cable it will not connect to the internet either.

Under Device Manager I right click "nvidia nforce Networking controller" and the status of the device is "this device cannot start"(code 10)

went to microsoft knowledge base http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=...

and read this is usually resolved by reinstalling the drivers! I been doing this for an hour now!

I really need to figure this out. This computer is driving me crazy and I don't wan to reinstall the Operating System because I do not have the CD.

Hello,

I understand your running Windows Vista? are you sure the drivers your trying to install are the correct ones, and match the system CPU architecture (32 bit or 64 bit)

32 bit drivers wont work on 64 bit Windows Vista, can you post a screenshot of your Device Manager.

Your computer is
HP Pavilion dv6000 CTO Notebook PC ??

okay!
Few more things I have tried.
I booted to ubuntu and when I connect my ethernet cable internet works fine.

Someone on another post recommended what's listed below
"
Click Start -> Run -> CMD
Then type the following commands and press enter after each command:
regsvr32 netman.dll
regsvr32 netcfgx.dll
regsvr32 netshell.dll"

That did not work.

Hello,

The network adapter works fine in uBuntu Linux, so you know for a fact the adapter works, when given the correct driver.

-- So you have a DV6500!

Which version of Vista do you run? Home Premium, Business, Ultimate?

The page you are looking for is here
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsuppor...

Make sure you download the correct driver, if you download and try install an invalid driver you'll know anyway because it wont accept it.

Let me know how you get on.

Thank you!
I downloaded the drivers for dv6500 but my nic and wireless card is still not recognized.
In device manager> Network adapters
NVIDIA nforce Networking Controllers is the only thing listed. Device status "This device cannot start. Code 10"

Wireless card is turned on, ethernet cable not recognized. I am running full virus scan now with pc-cillin latest virus definitions.

I'll be back later on for further troubleshooting.

Thanks for your help.

Hello,

Are you 100% sure that yours is a DV6500? 6500 might refer to the series of notebook rather than the model.

Check your System Information and try determine the model number, from there we can find the correct device drivers.

Did you download the Realtek LAN drivers? also try downloading the chipset drivers, after installing the chipset try installing the LAN driver.

Okay!
I ended up reinstalling windows.

I didn't want to end up reinstalling winblows but I was just getting so many errors on this computer.

First internet not working because virus changed windows registry and added some proxy server, then network card, then some boot error message, then another one, then antivirus unable to delete several viruses. To much! I couldn't take it.

Thanks for the help. Though I would like to know what is the best way to get rid of viruses. Seems like antiviruses with latest definitions never work .
