What's the make/model of the router? Do you have the manual for it & are you following the setup instructions?

I would have said that the best thing to do is download the English manual for that model from the TPLink support website. However, I cannot find the TL-MR12U listed on their website (not even as a discontinued model).

In that case you can email them and ask for setup instructions using this web-form: http://www.tp-link.com/en/support/c...

I hope you are successfull in this matter.

Strange that you should email them using English but they send you Chinese instructions! (unless the instructions are not available in any language other than Chinese, but I find that hard to believe).

I suggest you email them again and stress that you need the English setup instructions.

I have to say that I have set up more than 6 different routers since getting broadband internet at home, but none of them required me to deal with TCP/IP settings.

Choose a convenient location to begin installing your router such as an open floor space or table.

Plug in the router's electrical power source, then turn on the router by pushing the power button.

Connect your Internet modem to the router.

Connect one computer to the router.

Open the router's administration tool.

Log in to the router.

If you want your router to connect to the Internet, you must enter Internet connection information into that section of the router's configuration

You need some help from someone who's computer literate.

Do you not have any family/friends who know their way around comptuers/routers and can give you a hand?

Bummer!

Ok, lets confirm a few things.

1) From the sounds of it, you have the router connected to the internet and it's working on the internet?
2) Wireless clients, like your iPhone, can't connect to the internet?
3) You can't login to the router's management interface?

Assuming the above are correct:

2) Your wireless network has not been setup correctly and this needs to be fixed. However, doing so is dependent on #3

3) Unless you changed the login information, the default on every different make/model of SOHO router I've worked on is either:
a)
Username = admin
Password = admin

or

b)
Username = admin
Password = (as in blank password, as in no password at all)

So try both. If you can't login, then someone must have changed the password. If someone's changed the password and you can't find out what it is, your only option will be to reset the router to it's factory default settings and reconfigure it.

Once you're able to login to the management interface, setup your WLAN. I highly recommend using WPA2 encryption and a strong encryption key (password).

Thought Curt's post would get it working...

Do you mean you can connect wired and wireless but just can't connect to your iPhone?

Slow down a bit and communicate to us in complete thoughts please.

If you're unable to connect your iPhone to the wireless network (WLAN) then you need to reconfigure the encryption key and try again.

If you're able to connect your iPhone to the WLAN, but you get no internet connectivity?

If so, then something isn't configured properly on the router with regard to the WLAN.

Assuming your router is like every other router I've worked with, you go into the wireless setup section of the management interface and you create a SSID (name) for your network and then choose an encryption level (WPA2) and after that, you create an encryption key (password) for the wireless network.

Once you've done the above, all you should need to do with your iPhone is scan for available networks, choose the one you created when you see it and enter the encryption key when prompted. Then if you've entered the key correctly, your phone will connect to your WLAN and have internet connectivity.
