There should be no problem at all connecting a switch to a router. Just take a cable from one the routers LAN ports to one of the switch ports and plug the computer into the switch. There should be lights on the switch to indicate when a connection is made. Do these light come on when a cable is plugged itn.

The is no configuration to do with a switch, it either works or it doesn't. There was a time when you needed a cross over cable to connect a switch to a router but this shouldn't be the case now as most switch have auto sensing ports and with configure themselves.

If nothing works I would suspect a faulty cable,

Stuart
