how to set the IP Dont Fragment Bit in XP?

Specs: Windows XP
Hi,

I have a Intel PRO/1000 XT (Driver version
8.10.1.0) ethernet card on a Windows XP
machine.

I need to know can I set the Dont Fragment bit
in the IP header for packets going out of the
ethernet interface.

If there is some windows registry value or
some driver settings?

basically I need the windows machine to send
out jumbo packets with the Dont Fragment bit
NOT set.

Any help on this is greatly appreciated.. :)

I think it is on a pull down menu part of driver settings.
Should be part of the intel pro software if you have it installed.

You do realize of course if there is any network device at all between your XP PC and your destination that doesn't allow oversize packets, your data will never get to the destination...............don't you!?!?

If you're thinking to send a large file somewhere and you think it will go faster if you try to force oversize packets well, it won't make it transfer faster and more than likely if it's going out on the internet, it'll hit a router that will refuse the oversize packets and drop them then and there.

Pay close attention to the "Jumbo Frames" section.

To whit: "Enable Jumbo Frames only if devices across the network support them and are configured to use the same frame size. "

Hi,

Thanks for all the quick responses. I think I may not explained
the issue enough.

Here is what my setup looks like:

Machine 1 --- Machine 2 --- Machine 3
(XP with Intel (Windows Server (Windows Server)
card) acting as Router)

I want Machine 1 to send Jumbo packets with the IP Dont
Fragment bit NOT set so that Machine 2 will fragment them
and Machine 3 can re-assemble the packet.

At this point, I am able to send Jumbo packets out from the
Intel card on Machine 1 but they are sent out with the IP Dont
Fragment SET and hence no fragmentation occurs on
Machine 2.

I hope this makes the problem clearer.

Again..thanks for replying to my question. :)
