How to route from Vlan to management Vlan

Specs: Windows 7
Hi,

I have a Netgear GSM7248R switch with 5 different Vlans including th management Vlan. Each of the vlans are connected to my layer 3 switch for routing. I want to access the management vlan form any of my Vlans so my layer two switch can be detected by my snmp manager.

Any ideas?

All network appliances (switches, routers, etc) should be configured with IP's in the management VLAN (VLAN 1).

By default some managed switches will allow all other VLAN's configured on the device to communicate direcly with the management VLAN. If your's aren't like that, then you'd have to enter a static route from each of the other VLAN's to the management VLAN on your router.

The routing is done on the Layer 3 switch though port routing. each Vlan on the Layer 2 is connected to a port on the Layer 3. All of the Vlans can talk to each other except the management Vlan.

I tried assigning an ip address on one of the ports for the management Vlan but still no connection.

I'm not familiar with the switch you're using. Most of my experience is with Cisco, Nortel and 3Com products. All the enterprise level managed switches I've worked on require them to be assigned an IP. Where I work, we use the management VLAN for these assignments. It looks to me like you've got something not configured correctly.

Did you try setting a static route from the other VLAN's to your management VLAN?

What are you using your management VLAN for if not for the IP assigned to the network appliances?
