How many LAN ports does your router have?

If it has 4 then get another network cable, connect the laptop and they should be able to communicate.

If your router only has 1 LAN port then you may need to buy a small 8 port switch, connect it to the LAN port and then plug the PC and laptop into the switch.

Thanks for ur suggestion, but i want wireless connection between desktop and laptop.Desktop is connected witha router(linksys, wirless G ADSL gateway). And yes router has four ports on it. I want to connect them without any extra wire and without any switch. Do i have to click some options in my laptop to let it connect with the desktop?
Any suggestion?
