A PC is connected to a Router via an ethernet card using a UTP 5 cable. A router has a WAN port to be connected to the broadband termination of the phone line via the proper adapter suggested by the ISP and usually four LAN ports to connect the PCs. There may be a wireless hot point to connect wifi laptops too.

Yep, you could use normal Ethernet patch cable (straight cable) to connect from computer's network port to router's LAN port. After that you need to do some configuration on network adapter and router (if it's not configured yet) in order to make them work together.

If you need more ideas, could have a look on this wired home network setup tutorial.

Hope this helps.
