How do programs change or hide your IP ?

May 8, 2011 at 17:08:49
Specs: Windows 7
I downloaded a trial of Platinum Hide IP, (http://www.softpedia.com/get/Network-Tools/IP-Tools/Platinum-Hide-IP.shtml) and it worked nicely. Now I want to make my own, but I dont have a clue how they work. Does anyone know how they change/mask your wan ip?

That type program might make it seem like your IP is hidden but the simple fact is, without a valid IP you can't communicate on the network (internet)............period, end of story, no exceptions.

So if you need that IP to communicate, it follows you can't "hide" it because if you did, you'd stop communicating. Also, you can't just use any old IP address you want to as it has to be a valid IP within your provider's network to communicate beyond their network, so you can't just change it temporarily (or permanently) eithere.

The only person this kind of software hides anything from is user who don't know any better.

Your provider knows your IP address.

I totally agree with Curt R, you cannot hide your IP, without an IP you cannot communicate.

Using the program you still have an IP. It just masks your real IP and gives you a different IP. When using the program you can visit sites like WhatsMyIP.com and the masked IP will be shown not your real IP.

I want to learn how programs like this work so that I can make my own.

The "mask" is not effective enough to hide your IP from anybody with a half a brain. But you go ahead and do whatever it is you think you have to do but personally, I find reinventing the wheel (or in your case, writing yet another useless program that's already been written) is a complete waste of time. But it's your time and your life so have fun.
